Dean's Award for Excellence in Service

The Dean's Awards are presented each year to recognize outstanding professors in the College of Humanities, Arts and Sciences. There are four faculty awards––one to recognize teaching excellence in departmental programs; one to recognize teaching excellence in the liberal arts core; one to recognize excellence in research, scholarship and creative activity; and one to recognize excellence in service. Each Dean's Awardee will receive $1000 and an engraved plaque.

Any faculty member, permanent, term or temporary, in the College of Humanities, Arts and Sciences who has not received this award in the last five years.

Excellence in Service as demonstrated by:

  • Effective participation in department, college and university-level service activities and governance or
  • Effective community engagement and outreach, especially as related to one's professional expertise,
  • With the inclusion of students in the service activities, as appropriate.

Each department head may nominate one faculty member from his/her department based on the stated criteria. Final selection is made by the Council of Department heads.
