Final Thursday Reading Series—Spring 2022

All events take place on the last Thursday of the month at the Hearst Center for the Arts. Come a few minutes early to sign up for the open mic, which starts at 7:00. The featured reader takes the stage at 7:30.  (featured reading will be live Zoomcast with Zoom links posted to this page prior to the event). 

January 27, 2022 — Kamyar Enshayan

Kamyar Enshayan was born in Iran and came to the U.S. in 1978.  He has been involved in strengthening Iowa's local food economy, directs UNI’s Center for Energy & Environmental Education, and has served on the Cedar Falls City Council. That varied experience serves as the backdrop for his latest book, My Citizenship Papers, a collection of essays.

February 24, 2022 — Larry Baker
Larry Baker is the author of the new novel Wyman and the Florida Knights. His other books include From a Distance, A Good Man and The Flamingo Rising. A former member of the Iowa City Council, he is also an honoree on the Iowa Literary Walk of Fame in Iowa City.

March 31, 2022 — Kathy Fish
Kathy Fish has published five collections of short fiction, including her most recent book, Wild Life: Collected Works from 2003-2018. A UNI graduate, her work has appeared in Best American Nonrequired Reading and The Norton Reader. She also writes the free monthly newsletter, “The Art of Flash Fiction.” This reading is co-sponsored by the UNI Women’s and Gender Studies program as part of Women’s History Month.

April 28, 2022 — Jesse Swan
Jesse Swan is a Professor of English in UNI’s Department of Languages & Literatures. After many years of writing and publishing literary history and criticism, he has recently turned to poetry, and his work has appeared as part of the Telepoem Booth project.

 

Final Thursday Reading Series

The Final Thursday Reading Series is a collaboration of Final Thursday Press, the Hearst Center, the UNI College of Humanities, Arts and Sciences, and the UNI Department of Languages and Literatures. This event takes place on the final Thursday of each month in Mae Latta Hall.
