Ben Schafer, associate professor of computer science, was recently appointed to a one-year term on the LEGO Education Advisory Panel (LEAP). Schafer was one of eight to 12 new panelists selected from more than 11,000 educators who applied to serve on the 25-member panel. He was selected on the basis of his use of LEGO Mindstorms--a series of kits containing software and hardware to create small, customizable and programmable robots--in the classroom and with summer robotic camps. LEAP will provide critical product review to the LEGO Education research and development staff to help create relevant products and curriculum. The panelists will also represent the voice of the educator and will share their classroom experiences with other educators.
