Patricia Higby, energy education outreach coordinator at the CEEE, was a presenter for the Virtual Eco Family Conference on March 1. Higby discussed what families can do to make their community’s schools more sustainable during the online conference series from Iowa State University Extension and Outreach. The series is designed to help Iowans think about environmental issues and practical action steps they can take in their own home and neighborhood.
William Stigliani, professor and senior adviser for sustainability curriculum, will present the paper “Faculty Enrichment Program for Infusing Sustainability Education across the University Curriculum” at the World Symposium on Sustainable Development at Universities in Rio de Janeiro on June 5-6. Co-authored by Catherine Zeman, director of the Recycling and Reuse Technology Transfer Center and associate professor in the School of Health, Physical Education and Leisure Services, Gowri Betrabet Gulwadi, associate professor of applied human sciences, and Stigliani, the paper is based on UNI’s program on faculty leadership in sustainability education, in which 26 UNI faculty from 15 departments are learning to infuse sustainability themes into the courses they teach. The paper will also be published in a journal and in a book.
