"My name is Gwendolynn and I am a junior Biology major from Gary, IN. I love studying in CHAS because the professors care. I will never forget my freshman year when I was taking General Biology: Cell Structure and Function and I was totally confused about lecture that day.  I went to my professor’s office and he sat with me until I was able to identify and understand everything I had asked about.  I had never had an instructor care that much. I am also so thankful for Joan Smothers, my Biology advisor, because she has helped me register for classes and helped me to understand my academic requirements.

"I enjoy studying in CHAS because I know that I have many opportunities and there are people that want to see me succeed.  This year, I had the opportunity to be a LSAMP scholar, which has opened many doors for me.  This award is for multicultural students that major in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) disciplines.  Last summer I had an internship at the National Ag Based Lubricants Center (NABL) and this summer I have an opportunity to work at John Deere where I’ll be interacting with the industrial hygienists.

"UNI has allowed me to get knowledge from great professors in all areas of Biology and providing me with the many opportunities I have had.  I would be lost without the guidance of the faculty and staff in CHAS.”
