Carmen Durham

Carmen Durham is an Assistant Professor of TESOL/Applied Linguistics. Her teaching and research focus on preparing teachers to provide equitable education to culturally and linguistically diverse students through humanizing pedagogies and effective technology use. Her research draws on sociocultural theories of learning, qualitative methodology, and discourse analysis to examine pre-service teachers’ experiences learning through TESOL coursework and student teaching internships/field experiences.

Carmen received a Ph.D. in Applied Linguistics and Language Education at the University of Maryland. She completed a B.A. in Spanish with a K-12 teaching certificate from Samford University and an M.A. in language teaching from Michigan State University. She has taught Spanish, ESOL, and Romanian in a variety of contexts, including middle and high school, university, and adult education.
