Sam Robertson
Out-of-School Specialist
Sam Robertson serves as an Out-of-School Specialist for the Migratory Education Program (MEP), where he works closely with qualifying migrant youth to help them set and pursue educational goals. He provides resources and guidance for enrollment in equivalency diploma programs and ESL courses, while also offering alternative services such as résumé building, driver's license preparation, and access to basic needs within their communities. Originally from South Carolina, Sam has long been drawn to cultures different from his own. This curiosity led him to explore and study in various countries throughout Central and South America. He earned his Bachelor's degree in Spanish from Lander University and later taught outdoor education at a camp located on one of South Carolina’s barrier islands. Combining his language skills and educational experience, Sam is proud to be part of the MEP team, where he supports, counsels, and advocates on behalf of migrant youth—many of whom have left school due to the transient nature of agricultural work. He deeply admires their tenacity and work ethic in the face of significant challenges. Residing in Northeast Iowa, Sam enjoys running, camping, and exploring nearby parks and rivers with his wife, daughter, and twin boys.
