Scott’s research interests intersect with much of his personal and professional experience. After receiving a B.A. in English from UNI in 2014, Scott joined the department as a graduate student; teaching Oral Communication, coaching the UNI Speech Team, and writing the award-winning Master’s Thesis, Visualizing Belonging: Deliberation and Identification in the Vestavia Hills Mascot Controversy. While attending UNI as an undergraduate and graduate student, Scott also worked with Information Technology, where he developed skills in customer service, software troubleshooting and repair, and even organizational communication. After leaving UNI as a student, Scott continued his education with doctoral coursework at the University of Iowa, before going on to work in website support at a large financial institution.

Scott returned to UNI in 2018 as an adjunct instructor, and now serves as an instructor in Interactive Digital Studies. A dedicated teacher, Scott brings together his traditional education in communication together with his professional experience in technology to give a unique perspective to students taking the Interactive Digital Communication courses. Encouraging his students to speak up, try new things, ask questions, and learn through the small moments of “failure” that often come with digital projects, Scott hopes to bring an energy to the classroom that inspires each student to bring layers of creativity to every assignment. When possible, Scott also enjoys teaching political communication, rhetoric courses, and First-Year courses like Oral Communication and Cornerstone. An advocate of service-learning, he tends to try to find ways to encourage students to get invested and involved in their community through civic-engagement assignments.
