Tom Hesse
Associate Adjunct Professor
MA, Philosophy, University of Montana
BA, History and Philosophy, University of Northern Iowa
Born and raised in Cedar Falls, I completed my undergraduate degree at UNI in 1999 with majors in history and philosophy. After graduate school I taught a variety of philosophy, ethics, logic, and interdisciplinary courses at Kirkwood Community College. In 2012 I returned to UNI and started teaching the Humanities I/II/III (Western Civilizations) sequence, often in large 120-student sections. I now teach much smaller sections of Science, Technology, and Ethics, a course I helped create for the Department of Philosophy and World Religions.
Over the years I have also done a large amount of service for the university. Currently I am a faculty representative on President Mark Nook’s Budget Advisory Committee, and I am the treasurer for United Faculty, the faculty union at UNI. Faculty working conditions are student learning conditions.
