Professor of English
Dr. Grant’s work focuses on technical and professional communication
ecologies, especially with respect to underserved citizens and
environmental sustainability. In addition to receiving the 2024 CCCC
Outstanding Teacher Award, Dr. Grant is recognized as a UNI Service
Learning Leader and Student Success Advocate. He is co-editor of
Decolonial Conversations in Posthuman and New Material Rhetorics (Ohio
State UP, 2022) and his work has also appeared in College Composition
and Communication, Rhetoric Society Quarterly, Enculturation, several
edited collections, and various digital platforms. His theme, “Fail/Safe” was
selected as the organizing conference theme of ARSTM’s pre-conference
at the Rhetoric Society of America and he successfully led a revision of
CCCC’s “Principles for the Postsecondary Teaching of Writing.” He
currently leads a team to revise AWAC’s “Statement on Artificial
Intelligence Writing Tools in Writing Across the Curriculum Settings.” He
also serves on RSA’s Publications Committee.
Dr. Grant's experiences in many different places have led him to explore
connections between place, nature and writing. His current research
interests include theories of relational witnessing, decolonial rhetorics, and
rhetorical energy. He has formally studied Meskwaki language as part of
his work to bridge cultures and people in Iowa and Minnesota, has worked
extensively with Dakota people, and is a member of the CCCC’s American
Indian Caucus.
