Gerald W. Intemann

Emeritus Professor of Physics

Dr. Intemann’s research career as a theoretical elementary particle physicist has focused primarily on understanding the dynamics of weak, electromagnetic, and strong decays of light and heavy meson resonances.  His work has included theoretical investigations of the quark sub-structure of meson resonances and testing the validity of certain “selection rules” governing weak interaction processes.

Dr. Intemann joined the UNI physics faculty as the new physics department head in 1980.  During the summer 1983 he was a visiting research scientist at the Argonne National Laboratory and in fall 1987 he was a visiting research physicist at the Institute of High Energy Physics in Beijing, China and at Kyoto University in Kyoto, Japan.  Dr. Intemann served as Dean of the College of Natural Sciences at UNI for ten years (1990-2000).  In 2000 Dr. Intemann took early retirement from UNI.  Following his early retirement, Dr. Intemann served as Dean of the College of Science and Mathematics at Towson University in Maryland (2000-2008) and as Provost and Academic Vice President for Academic Affairs at Indiana University of Pennsylvania (2008-2013) before his full retirement.
