Yager Science Education Resources and Outreach
Yager Science Education Resources and Outreach is coordinated by science education faculty and staff and operated by students, including those who will be future science teachers. This entity provides science curriculum resources and outreach for not only UNI students and faculty but also to teachers and students in schools.
About Yager Science Education Resources and Outreach
Yager Science Education Resources and Outreach provides instructional resources including grades K-8 science kits as well as grades K-12 print materials, including texts and activity books for check out. Teaching majors, including early childhood, elementary, middle level and secondary science teaching majors, are introduced to the science kits and related instructional resources and strategies in their methods courses.
UNI faculty and students can request tours and professional learning opportunities on the use of the instructional resources. Faculty can check out the instructional resources to use in their courses and in collaboration with teachers to be used in their classrooms in schools. UNI students can check out the instructional resources to use in their courses for peer teaching, field experiences and students. The resources are available for check out by MA science education students who are existing teachers.
Providing Resources for Teachers
Teachers from schools within Central Rivers AEA may reserve and checkout science kits and other instructional resources for classroom use with AEA van service providing transportation to and from schools due to a collaborative agreement science education has with the AEA.
A small user fee is invoiced to the school. Teachers are invited to participate in the UNI Science Education Update Conference - a one day conference for teachers in the spring to be introduced to the science kits and related instructional resources and strategies with mini-workshops and presentations by UNI science education faculty and others.
Summer workshops and professional learning opportunities may also be available for teachers to be able to implement the resources and strategies in their classroom with some support.
