Scholarships

Financial Aid and Scholarships

Students are encouraged to contact the UNI Financial Aid Office to determine their eligibility for university grants and scholarships as well as student loan programs. UNI grants are institutional awards made to students based on financial need. Students should review the Financial Aid website.

To apply for scholarships, please complete the on-line UNI Scholarship Application. The deadline to complete this application is FEBRUARY 7th.

Undergraduate Scholarships

Irene M. Thompson Scholarship

Award Varies.  Awarded during the spring semester for the following academic year. Either undergraduate OR graduate students are eligible (3.0 GPA required)

  • One letter of recommendation from faculty member
Jerome Humpal-Guthart Endowed Scholarship
  1. Communication Disorders
  2. At least a junior
  3. Financial need
  4. Deserving
  5. Dedicated to the profession of hearing and/or speech pathology

Note:  Must show financial need. EFC must high or medium.

Lois Shefte Potter Scholarship Award

Amount varies. Awarded during the spring semester for the following academic year. Applications are accepted from 2nd semester juniors. 

How to apply: 

  • Complete the online UNI Scholarship Application listed above 
Pauline Mann Mitchell Book Purchase Award

$100 - $200 deposited to student’s U-bill. Awarded during spring semester for the following fall semester. Students majoring in Communication Disorders are eligible. 

How to apply: 

  • Complete the on-line UNI Scholarship Application listed above and write one paragraph describing courses for which the award will be used. Award is based on academic ability, including, but not limited to GPA. Submit to department office, 230 CAC. 
Jerry Williams Memorial Endowed Scholarship

Amount varies. Renewable if all criteria is met.

  1. Communication Disorders:  Audiology Emphasis
  2. Sophomore, junior or senior student
  3. Full-time
  4. GPA of 3.0 or above

Graduate Scholarships

Allison Morris Forever 28 Endowed Scholarship

$1,000. 

  • Female Grad Student
  • Resident of the State of Iowa  
  • Renewable for 2nd year 
  • Preference given to golfer.
Joel B. Rydberg Speech Language Pathology Scholarship

Two scholarships of $2,000 each. 

  1. Speech Language Program
  2. Incoming Graduate Student
  3. Must be pursuing a career in school-based speech/language, not clinical
  4. Exemplifies faith, perseverance, family and service  

Renewable if all criteria is met.

Barbara Froyen-Nebel Scholarship

Award full tuition/fees. Amount varies by year.

  1. Speech/Language Pathologist
  2. Incoming In-State Graduate Student pursuing Master’s Degree
  3. Based on merit, not financial need
  4. Preference shall be given to those interested in private practice or medical field.
Roy Eblen Endowed Scholarship
  1. Speech/Language Pathology
  2. Graduate Student
  3. Promise of Clinical Excellence
  4. Strong desire to help others
  5. Potential for making lasting contribution to the field
  6. Ability to write and speak clearly and coherently
  7. Student needs to write a letter to apply

Beverly Kasier & Donald E. Baustian Endowed Scholarship

Amount varies.

  1. Speech/Language Pathologist
  2. Final year of Master’s Program
  3. Intends to work in a public school system
  4. Preference given to an Iowa native who has secured an internship opportunity in a public school setting
Duane and Cheryl Schipull Endowed CSD Scholarship

$2,000

  1. Preference given to Communication Sciences & Disorders incoming graduate student
  2. Based on merit & good academic standing
  3. Resident of Iowa 
  4. Renewable as long as student is in good academic standing
