Roy Eblen Speech & Hearing Clinic
The Roy Eblen Speech & Hearing Clinic provides services in the areas of speech, language, cognition, hearing, and swallowing disorders. Each year, the clinic serves hundreds of clients of all ages and abilities.
The clinic provides culturally responsive assessment and treatment services and uses current evidence based practices to assist individuals, families, and/or caregivers with communication.
The clinic is affiliated with the UNI Department of Communication Sciences and Disorders, which is dedicated to the preparation of students who will be entering the professions of Speech-Language Pathology and Audiology.
The Department of Communication Sciences and Disorders and the Roy Eblen Speech and Hearing Clinic support communication for persons of all abilities. We respect and follow the communication bill of rights, striving to promote an individual’s independent communication with others.
Providing Care, Supporting Education
The clinic’s delivery model revolves around the provision of assessment and therapeutic services by students under the supervision of faculty and staff members in the department. Supervisory staff consists of nine Ph.D. and six M.A. level Speech-Language Pathologists and Audiologists, all of whom are licensed and have expertise in specific areas of communicative disorders.
The clinic is affiliated with various hospitals, schools, clinics, and extended care facilities that serve as practicum and internship sites for student clinical training.
About the Clinic
The University of Northern Iowa Speech and Hearing Clinic has been in existence since the early 1960s. In 1997, the clinic was renamed the Roy Eblen Speech & Hearing Clinic in honor of Dr. Eblen, the founding Head of the Department of Communicative Disorders, now the Department of Communication Sciences and Disorders.
