Electrical Engineering Technology

Exploring renewable energy, designing microcomputers or developing advanced robotics systems – students in the Electrical Engineering Technology program are continually pushing the boundaries of today’s technology.

Our curriculum is broad-based, and hands-on – preparing you for a wide variety of careers in the electrical and electronics engineering industry. You’ll study everything from conventional and renewable electrical energy, to machinery and power systems, to microcomputers, digital electronics, wireless communications, computer hardware, networking and more.

Outside of the classroom, we’ll connect you with internships and co-ops with industry leading partners such as John Deere and Collins Aerospace – helping you build your professional network, and fine-tune your resume.

Opportunities for students

Internships and Field Experiences
Our students are highly sought after for summer internships at John Deere, Collins Aerospace, Vermeer, Garmin, and more. In fact, many of our industry partners contact us to set up internships more than a year in advance. These internships often lead to incredible job offers.

Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers
UNI’s Chapter of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) is an international organization for electrical, computer engineers, computer scientists, electrical/electronics/electro-mechanical engineering technologists and people on the cutting edge of technical society.

The best part of the EET major at UNI is the hands-on experiences, and small class sizes, which makes it easy to get help from professors whenever you need it.

Hands-On Learning

Some of the most impactful learning experiences happen beyond the textbook. In the Department of Applied Engineering & Technical Management, you'll learn by doing. Every student completes a senior design or research project, choosing a topic that interests them – whether it’s exploring new uses for GPS technology, or creating a solar-powered boat.
