Pre-Medical: Biochemistry Track

Using chemistry and biochemistry concepts to move the field of medicine forward

The Biochemistry B.A. and B.S. programs are challenging majors, providing excellent preparation for medical school. In fact, all of our majors who have applied to medical school have been accepted.

The Biochemistry B.A. program has the extra flexibility that provides them with the breath, without sacrificing the depth, of knowledge needed to excel in the medical field. Many students pair this program with a double major in Biology.

It is important to keep in mind that the pre-medical track is not an academic major; rather, it’s a suggested program of study that prepares students to apply to professional school upon completing their undergraduate degree. Pre-med students may choose a major in any area, though many choose majors in scientific areas, which offer a convenient path to completing medical school prerequisites.

Every UNI Biochemistry major who has applied to medical school has been accepted.

Med School Prep

A degree in Biochemistry allows you to complete the prerequisites for medical school, while gaining hands-on lab experiences to set you apart from the crowd.

High-Demand Field

The U.S. will see a shortage of nearly 122,000 physicians by 2033 as demand for doctors grows faster than supply, according to a 2020 report by the Association of American Medical Colleges (AAMC).
