International Admission FAQ's

Master of Science in Technology

Below are the answers to the most frequently asked questions by international applicants who are interested in the Master of Science in Technology Program:

  • How much is the application fee? Can the application fee be waived?
    • $75. We do not offer application fee waivers; however, we are able to grant you an application fee deferral. To request a deferral of your application fee, please complete this form. Only applications with the fee deferral request form completed will be considered if no application fee payment was received at the time of submitting your application.
    • This means that if you are admitted and enroll as a student to UNI, the application fee will show up on your first university bill. When you are ready to submit your application, you can skip the payment part at the end for now, and your application will then move to our International Admissions team for initial review.

  • Are international students seeking assistantship positions required to submit financial support documents during the application process?
    • Financial support documents are not required during the application process. However, please understand the Graduate Assistant positions are very limited. You must provide financial support documents for your I-20 unless you received the full financial aid.

  • Are prospective students automatically considered for graduate assistantship or one needs to make a separate application?
  • What is the deadline for the financial aid application?
    • The deadline is Feb. 1 for the next academic year. For example, if you want to be considered for financial aid during the academic year 2024-25, the deadline is February 1, 2024. You must have a complete application for admission and both complete graduate assistantship and tuition scholarship applications by Feb. 1. It is recommended to submit your applications as soon as possible since the admission is rolling.

  • Do I need to secure a commitment from a faculty before I submit my application?
    • No, it is not needed.

  • Is GRE optional or mandatory?
    • GRE is not required.

  • What are the requirements of English proficiency for international students?
  • My four-year/five-year bachelor's degree was taught in English, do I need to submit an English test?
    • If your transcripts state that the Medium of Instruction was English, we will waive the English Proficiency requirement.

  • Where can I find the curriculum information of the MS in Technology program?
  • How much does it cost to study at the University of Northern Iowa?
    • Please check out the tuition and fees information in the link: https://tuition.uni.edu/. International students need to pay the Non-Resident tuition in general. International students are qualified for in-state (Iowa Resident) tuition if they are appointed as at least 50% of an eligible Graduate Assistant position.
