Miriam Alarcón Avila

The Department of Languages & Literatures and the Department of Art teams up for a Latinx Heritage Month event featuring Iowa-based photographer Miriam Alacrón Avila, who visited campus for a bilingual public lecture. The UNI Art Gallery as featured work from Avila's “Luchadores Immigrants in Iowa,” a photo-documentary project that gave voice to new Iowans and shared their challenges as immigrants of Latino heritage.

Sigma Tau Delta
Sigma Tau Delta, the International English Honors Society, admitted a new class of students this fall in a ceremony presided over by advisor and L&L English professor Jesse Swan. The keynote address was given by Dr. Adrianne Finlay, who joined the ranks of L&L faculty this semester.

The Storytellers Club
This collaboration of creative writing students working with L&L English professor Brooke Wonders and Communication-Theatre students under Communication & Media's Danielle McGeough created and performed a series of monologues on person, social and political themes.

Darcie Little Badger
Young Adult novelist Darcie Little Badger visited the Cedar Valley as part of the Ila M. Hemm Visiting Author Program. Little Badger met with L&L English-Teaching students as well as middle school students in Waterloo. She capped off her visit with a public reading as part of the Final Thursday Reading Series.
