Pre-Pharmacy: Biology Track

As medication specialists, pharmacists play an important role on their healthcare teams

Pharmaceutical medicine offers a challenging, yet rewarding, career path that allows you to help people get well. There are a variety of opportunities in the field, working in independent or retail-chain pharmacies, hospitals, nursing homes, or the pharmaceutical industry. In most settings, direct patient care is an important component of the work.

It is important to keep in mind that the pre-pharmacy track is not an academic major; rather, it’s a suggested program of study that prepares students to apply to professional school upon completing their undergraduate degree.

Pre-pharmacy students may choose a major in any area, though the BA Biology: Biomedical major is an excellent choice – designed to keep pre-pharmacy students on track to meet the most common requirements and recommendations for pharmacy doctoral programs and for the topics of the PCAT. With many pre-pharmacy courses counting toward your UNI degree, this is an efficient pathway to prepare for a pharmacy graduate program.

For the past 4 years, 100 percent of UNI students applying to Pharmacy School have been admitted. 95 percent of those admitted were Biology and/or Biochemistry majors.

Club

The Pre-Pharmacy club explores pharmacy school options, careers in pharmacy, and more. The club often meets with representatives from pharmacy schools, offers assistance with resume building, PharmCAS applications, and studying for the PCAT.
